New Marvel Rivals style shooter hits PC, but pulled from Xbox and PlayStation

New PC game Fragpunk launches on Steam and Epic Games Store, but Netease delays Xbox Series S and X and PS5 release.

New Marvel Rivals style shooter hits PC, but pulled from Xbox and PlayStation

Fragpunk, the new hero shooter from Netease, has just launched on PC, but players on Xbox Series S and X and PlayStation 5 will have to wait. The fast-paced FPS, which has drawn comparisons to Overwatch 2 and Marvel Rivals, was set for a multi-platform release, but a last-minute delay means console players have been left out for now.

Fragpunk was supposed to be available across all major platforms, but Netease has confirmed that unforeseen technical issues with the Xbox Series S and X and PlayStation 5 versions have caused delays. The team stated that they encountered unexpected technical challenges while optimizing the game for consoles, which meant it couldn’t launch alongside the PC game.

New PC game Fragpunk

Rather than rush out a subpar experience, Netease opted to delay the console versions until they can ensure performance is on par with the PC release. No revised launch date has been announced, but the developers have promised updates as they continue working on the console ports.

To compensate affected players, Netease is offering:

  • All Season 1 engagement rewards to console players once the game launches.
  • $10 worth of in-game currency for those who pre-ordered the console edition.
  • Automatic pre-order refunds for all PlayStation and Xbox purchases

Fragpunk looks great on Steam Deck

While console players are left waiting, PC players – especially those with a Steam Deck – are already enjoying Fragpunk. Early reports suggest that the game runs surprisingly well on Valve’s handheld, delivering smooth performance and maintaining visual fidelity.

Fragpunk performs at a stable frame rate with minimal tweaking required, making it a solid option for handheld gamers. With the delay of the Xbox Series S and X and PlayStation 5 versions, playing on Steam Deck might be the next best alternative for those eager to jump into the action.

Fragpunk crossplay expected

One of the big questions surrounding Fragpunk is whether it will support crossplay between PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S and X when the console versions finally launch.

While Netease has not yet provided full details, early reports indicate that cross-platform multiplayer will be available, allowing players across different systems to squad up. However, balancing adjustments may be needed to ensure fairness between PC players using keyboard and mouse and console players on controllers.

What’s next for Fragpunk?

For now, PC players can jump into Fragpunk on Steam, while console players will have to wait for further updates. With Marvel Rivals also entering the hero shooter scene soon, Netease will need to ensure Fragpunk is fully optimized when it finally lands on Xbox Series S and X and PlayStation 5. Expect more updates from the developers as they work to bring the console versions up to speed.

“FragPunk – Announcement on Console Delay
Dear Lancers,
First and foremost, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your patience and unwavering support of FragPunk. Since the announcement of the game, your excitement has been truly inspiring, and we know how much you’ve been looking forward to launching into battle on both Xbox and PlayStation.

However, we want to be fully transparent with you: during the console compliance testing process, we encountered unexpected technical challenges in optimization and adaptation. Rather than rushing the console release and providing a potentially poor user experience, we have made the difficult decision to delay the launch of the console versions to ensure that players receive a comparable experience to those on PC.

We understand that delays are frustrating, and we sincerely apologize for the wait. As a gesture of appreciation, we have prepared compensation for both Xbox and PlayStation players, especially those who supported us through pre-orders.

Compensation for Console Players on Both Xbox & PlayStation
For all console players:
We will provide all rewards gained via engagement, beginning from the start of Season 1 until the console version goes live (including in-game currencies, cosmetics, XP, and more). More detailed information will be shared in future announcements.

For pre-order players:
In accordance with platform policies, pre-orders on Xbox and PlayStation will be canceled, and the respective platforms will automatically initiate the refund process. We will also provide in-game currency worth $10 to these players when the console versions officially launch.

Meanwhile, don’t worry about missing out on the pre-order bonuses. While we aren’t planning on issuing a new pre-order before release, the bundle will be available in a time-limited way after the console versions are released.

Our Commitment
This delay was not an easy decision, but we are committed to delivering the best possible experience for our players, and this additional time will allow us to fully optimize and polish the console versions for launch.

We know this isn’t the news you were hoping for, and we deeply appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued excitement for the game. Our team is working closely with both the Xbox and PlayStation teams to get FragPunk into your hands as soon as possible, and we will keep you updated every step of the way.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us—we can’t wait to welcome you to the battlefield soon!
